Last week I asked why so much of your week still requires you. Today I want to give you a way to find out.

The “Why Does This Still Require Me?” Worksheet walks you through your last two weeks of calendar using three questions:

  1. What am I doing that someone else could own?
  2. What keeps coming back to me because there’s no clear way to handle it?
  3. What decisions land on me that belong to somebody else?

It takes about 30-ish minutes. Most owners and leaders find a handful of hours they can hand back to their team on the first pass, and a couple of repeat problems that have been quietly eating their week for years.

A tip before you start.

When you look at each item, ignore whether you’re good at it or whether you enjoy it. The only question is whether someone else could reasonably be responsible for it. Owners who skip that step tend to talk themselves into keeping everything.
